New York City School Chancellor is stepping down from leading the nation’s largest school system after three years.

Carranza has lost more than ten family members and friends to COVID-19 and said he needs time to grieve.

Long-time educator Meisha Ross-Porter will fill the role. She is the executive superintendent for the Bronx and is expected to take the helm on March 15th.

Ross-Porter will be the first Black woman to hold the position.

This is a developing story.
