The offices of NYS Assemblyman Charles Barron, NYC Council Member Inez D. Barron, along with the endorsements of Community Board 5 Chairperson Andre T. Mitchell and NYS Sen.
Roxanne Persaud rallied this past week to halt rent increases in an East New York housing complex.
In a statement they said, “We find it unconscionable that the owners of Spring Creek Towers would plan a rent increase when residents have suffered so much during the current pandemic.”
They said that they had written to the Commissioner of NYS Housing and Community Renewal RuthAnne Visnauskas requesting that the proposed rent increases be denied. “In fact, proposals for economic assistance from the owners would be more appropriate and more humane during this health and economic crisis.”
The Barrons held a community town hall to discuss how to support the tenants and strategize for the future.
