Now, this is a sign of divine alignment. The Oscars and Bowers & Sons Cleaners, the subject of the Oscar-nominated short documentary “A Concerto is a Conversation,” located at 2509 South Central Avenue in Los Angeles, are both celebrating their 93rd year.

The “A Concerto is a Conversation” documentary is about a virtuoso jazz pianist and film composer Kris Bowers, who tracks his family’s lineage through his 91-year old grandfather Horace from Jim Crow Florida to the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The film is now playing at over 120 movie theaters nationwide as part of the 2021 Oscar® Nominated Short Films theatrical release.

This event celebrated the film’s nomination for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 93rd Academy Awards®. This is the first nomination for Ben Proudfoot and a first directing nomination for Kris Bowers, who composed the music for 2019’s Best Picture winner, ”Green Book.” The awards ceremony will be televised live on ABC at 5:30 pm PT on April 25 (Academy voting takes place from April 15 to 20).

Naturally, the film’s subject, Horace Bowers, made a grand entrance in a 1940 Cadillac.
