MANNAS’ OWNER RECEIVES PROCLAMATION

In an effort to bring understanding to “awareness, solidarity and healing,” elected officials came out as Harlem business owner Betty Park was presented with a proclamation. The citation was given to Park, the owner of Manna’s Restaurant, which has been an Uptown presence since 1984 in the Harlem community. In attendance were Ray McGuire, Eric Adams, Gale Brewer, Brian Benjamin Clergy and community. members.

THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF CORNELIUS RICKS

Known for his bright smile and constant activism, services for Cornelius Ricks were held at Harlem’s Unity Funeral Home. On Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, it was announced that beloved Harlem community organizer Ricks had died, reportedly from prostate cancer.

MEMORIAL HELD FOR SAMUEL HARGRESS

A memorial event was held recently for Samuel Hargress Jr., born 1936, who died one year ago, Hargress was the owner of the “Paris Blues Jazz & Blues Club” for over 50 plus years in Harlem, New York City. It was one of the oldest Black-owned jazz clubs in Harlem which featured live music. Sam was honored by the community, music people, elected officials and family, including his son. Samuel Hargress III, and his grandkids. Those who knew him spoke of the many ways Hargress had helped them. Clergy, elected officials and young folk present, all had kind words for Samuel Hargress Jr.
