The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) awarded the AmNews a $10,000 grant as part of its “Black Press Grant Program” supported by a $300,000 grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) to support freelance reporters and producers at Black-owned media outlets.
The grant will be used to produce several in-depth stories on the COVID-19 pandemic, the vaccine, and its impact on the nation’s K-12 education system in the AmNews print and digital platforms. Along with written content, there will also be multimedia presentations to tell the story.
NABJ is providing support to original journalism content and will distribute the content through its newly launched news platform.
AmNews editor Nayaba Arinde and writer Cyril Josh Barker will coordinate and produce the content set to be published over the summer.
