On Saturday May 8, 2021, the Brooklyn community, elected officials and political aspirants came out to witness the street-renaming of the intersection of Caton and Flatbush Avenues to ‘Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. Way.’

Speaker after speaker praised Hastick, the Grenadian activist and impactful businessman who emigrated to the United States in 1972. Hastick died on Thursday, April 9, 2020, reportedly from complications due to the coronavirus.

During his 40 years in the U.S., Hastick was a key figure in the Caribbean community. He was instrumental in the formation of the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce; and in 1985 he founded the influential Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (CACCI).
