New York City Comptroller
Brian Benjamin is a standout in the field for comptroller. A graduate of Harvard Business School, he is well prepared to take on the massive and very complex role of the office. He will draw upon his experience leading the budget and revenues committee of the state senate and his vast expertise in the financial sector to execute the responsibilities of the office while protecting the needs of our communities. For these reasons and many more we endorse him for comptroller.
Brooklyn Borough President
Jo Anne Simon has been an advocate all of her career for those who often have not had a voice. She enjoys being with the public. And we would expect her to be a borough president following the model of Gail Brewer. She has a vision and a plan for the office and we endorse her for Brooklyn borough president.
Bronx Borough President
Vanessa Gibson is a talented and energetic candidate for Bronx borough president. She has served in the State Assembly as well as the city council and is well versed in the needs of the Bronx. She is well prepared with a solid platform. We would endorse her wholeheartedly except for the caveat of her endorsement of Yang which took us by surprise as we feel his entire run seems steeped in thinking that the New York City mayoralty is a consolation prize for president. That being said, we still believe she is the best candidate to bring the Bronx forward and therefore we do endorse Vanessa Gibson.
Surrogate Court Brooklyn
Dweynie Esther Paul has immersed herself in the ways of the law. She is the first Haitian American elected to Civil Court where she has served since 2015. As a judge who has sat in Family court she knows all too well the need for court reform and that especially goes for the Surrogate court. She is well poised to be able to bring that reform and we endorse her in the hopes that she will make the very painful process more tolerable.
