Reports indicate that R&B singer Tommy DeBarge of the famed sibling musical group DeBarge has died. He was 64.
According to TMZ, a family member said the singer died Thursday after being hospitalized for liver and kidney failure. Family members say DeBarge also contracted COVID-19 earlier this year but recovered.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI, Tommy and his brother Bobby were members of the Motown Records group Switch in the 1970s. The brothers later formed DeBarge in 1980, a singing group with their siblings El, Bunny, Marty, James, Randy and Chico.
The group made several chart-topping hits including, “Rhythm of the Night, “I Like It,” “All This Love” and “Time Will Reveal.”
DeBarge disbanded in 1989.
“Tommy has gained his wings,” DeBarge’s sister Bunny said in a post on social media.
