NEW YORK (AP) — A 2-year-old girl was fatally struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by her mother’s boyfriend, New York City police said.
The crash happened just after 10 p.m. Sunday in Bayside, Queens.
The toddler’s 23-year-old mother was removing packages from the rear of a Nissan Rogue when the child wandered in front of the vehicle, a police spokesperson said.
The mother’s boyfriend was at the wheel of the SUV and began driving off, unintentionally hitting the child, police said.
The little girl suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Flushing Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
There were no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
