Opal Lee, a retired teacher and activist known as the grandmother of Juneteenth, was honored by the Brooklyn Nets and the NBA with the game ball. She has also been honored by President Joe Biden. Born in Marshall, Texas in 1926, she successfully pushed to make Juneteenth a national holiday.
