A five-hours magnificent homegoing celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts III was held at Abyssinian Baptist Church on Nov. 4, 2022. It was well attended by decades-long church members, elected officials, candidates from across the nation, and the New York tri-state area community.
Mourners filled the church as family, friends and politicians remembered Butts for his impact on the community and the nation. Speakers included New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Gov. Kathy Hochul, former President Bill Clinton, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, actor Cortney B. Vance and others. Singer Valarie Simpson also performed a musical tribute.
