The Kwanzaa Film Unity Awards were held at the Shrine Music Venue in Harlem. Black film festival founders were awarded the Sydney Poitier Award for excellence. Host Ina Norris presented the award to Alysia Joy Powell, Homer Hans Bryant, Edney Hendrickson and Cynthia Horner, all in Black independent film.
