Institute honors Dr. King

The Institute for Transformative Mentoring (AKA ITM) honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a Day of Service in partnership with Council Member Kristin Richardson Jordan and a candlelight vigil for those lost to gun violence. Their group leaders are experienced youth mentors who aim to help rebuild communities. They noted that King was shot and Malcolm X was also shot.

Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) held their Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day event. Elected officials who spoke to the community included Attorney General Letitia James, DAs Darcell Clark and Eric Gonzalez, Mayor Eric Adams, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, State Sen. Cordell Cleare, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, and Sen. Charles Schumer.
