Senator Kevin Parker continues to empower youth by providing support and guidance on navigating obstacles they might face throughout their everyday lives by hosting another Youth Symposium and EmpoWOMENt in Brooklyn, N.Y. The annual event was held in collaboration with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. and Councilmember Farrah Louis.

As the event reaches its 27th year, it has been widely known for providing a platform for young people to engage in meaningful and important conversations with not only their peers, but also community stakeholders. In addition to a panel discussion and workshops, the event included a variety of other fun activities to indulge in.

Topics of the EmpoWOMENt workshops included financial literacy and mental, physical, and spiritual health.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. was founded in the 1920s by seven young educators at Butler University in Indiana, Indianapolis. The annual one-day symposium has grown into a nationwide event that was created in 1996 by the late Dr. LaRona J. Morris, past Grand Basileus of the sorority. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority continues to carry on her legacy.
