After Trump’s victory, it was widely suspected that Russell Vought would once again be at the helm of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), as he was during Trump’s first administration. Now that he has been confirmed, we can expect that even more elements of Project 2025, Vought’s conservative vision and handiwork devised in 2022, will soon fall in place — and fall is the operative word here. In fact, with the executive action to demolish DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) already in effect, one of his primary targets was the eradication of critical race theory and anything related to racialism, ethnicity, or gender identity.
If only a portion of the proposals listed in the 922-page “Mandate for Leadership” are actively enforced, we all will witness the undermining of the democratic process, upending of the Constitution, and the advent of social and political policies bearing signposts of fascism — if not a complete manifestation of diabolical governmental edicts.
During his campaign, when Trump was asked about his affiliation with Project 2025, he insisted that he had nothing to do with it, but that like so much of what spills from his mouth had little veracity. With Vought at the economic throttle, we may have the most dangerous of Trump’s henchmen since his most significant function is the management of Trump’s budget. Of equal concern is the extent to which it evaluates agencies, examining if they fully comply with the felon’s outlook.
Under Vought’s control, Trump’s determination to abrogate existing rules and regulations will be in full swing. In complete agreement with the three branches of the government will be a rightwing think tank, consistently in sync with the Heritage Foundation, the Proud Boys, and the Oath Keepers. At this junction in the march toward total authoritarian rule, the sole line of resistance appears to be a few courageous judges, applying temporary blocks to Trump running roughshod over human and civil rights, and erecting a fortress of Manifest Destiny to withstand our hopeful midterm elections.
Nearly everything we have fought valiantly for is endangered. All of the civil rights we thought were secured safely are being assailed mercilessly by an autocrat who declares his moves are legal; Vice President JD Vance said the other day that federal judges aren’t allowed to control his boss’s “legitimate power.”
Folks, get ready, there’s a terrible unrelenting nightmare on the horizon, and like an oncoming tornado or hurricane, my advice is to take cover and hope it blows over, leaving us with enough gumption to stand up against the tyrant. testing his limits with the endurance of our power of resistance.
