Dreamcon, a convention created in 2018 by ambitious Youtube content creators of color, invites fans of different genres of sports, games, anime, cartoons, and other nerdy interests to indulge in a convention around making dreams come true. As in the name “Real Dreamers Change the world.”

Friday was an amazing day of getting to explore the convention center. As in the last two years the convention took place in Austin, Texas. Visually the environment was stunning and paired really well with the amazing cosplays scattered throughout the crowd. Talking with Britney (@brittanyrcoates) a first timer when it comes to Dreamcon, she told me “Every single platform has a community that thrives on fandoms” when I asked her about how this experience would further her content and media experience “There’s a few fandoms I didn’t know about, and seeing six or seven people in those cosplays inspires me to watch these series. After consuming that content I can now create content based on that fandom.” Getting to talk to someone new to the environment furthered the excitement of the convention and gave it a breath of fresh air for my experience. Friday activities that Dreamgoers could attend ranged from physical activities like volleyball all the way to tabletop games like D&D which really gave an amazing set of options for everyone no matter the taste in activity.

Saturday, like any other convention (that I’ve been to at least), was the busiest day of the three. Squeezing through the exhibit hall past cosplayers from different cartoons and comics, and anime of course. The Exhibit hall was a phenomenal experience. The merchandise variety was amazing. I got to see things from legos to bonnets, Even some magic wands. Saturday had the best line up of tournaments taking place. The attendees could take place in cash prize gaming tournaments for games like Mario kart8, and street fighter 6 , to Naruto ultimate ninja storm. I had the pleasure of attending the content celebrity volleyball game. The game was an amazing and fun event to watch. Even former victorious and upcoming R&B artist Leon Thomas attended the game to watch as well.

The last day of course was just as amazing as the first two but with a bittersweet feeling since it was coming to an end. To celebrate the end of the convention they had an amazing line up of events happening for the day. From a indie Game Center, to a pro wrestling match, the activities were no less then amazing. Getting to speak with Britani (@Britani) about how it feels as a streamer/gamer but also a women of color being here and representing other women of color at this convention “it’s beautiful, I think we need to be seen across the media…it’s a positive space and I think that’s not represented a lot.” This was Britani’s 4th Dreamcon. Following in her amazing gaming brother Berleezy footsteps, Britani hosted a short panel this Dream to talk about how to balance a work/ gaming lifestyle without it becoming overwhelming. Especially as a single mother.

This Dreamcon has been nothing less than amazing. Getting to interact with different people of color from around the world, all indulging in their favorite hobbies whether it be gaming, clothing, sports and of course anime, Dreamcon is definitely a great experience for anyone new or old to the convention scene. Thankfully Dreamcon is a yearly event so if you didn’t attend this year’s don’t be sad. Dreamcon2026 will be taking place July 10-12, 2026. In Houston Texas at the George R. Brown Convention center. Tickets will be available later on this summer, so be on the look out.
