Legendary filmmaker and New Yorker Spike Lee will host a Pop-Up Stoop Sale this Saturday, Aug. 9, featuring vintage posters, one sheets, and books — and the Academy Award winning director himself will be on hand to sign merchandise for fans and shoppers.
The event, which runs from 12-7 p.m., will take place at the headquarters for Lee’s production company, 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks, located at 75 S. Elliott Place in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
In his work, Spike Lee, whose films include “Do the Right Thing,” “Malcolm X,” and “BlacKkKlansmen,” has tackled themes like race relations and the Black experience through depictions of urban life and large-scale historical events. In addition to directing, Lee has written, produced, and acted in many of his works, which have been acclaimed by critics and audiences for over four decades. “We went into the vaults of ’40 Acres,’” said Lee, smiling on a video posted to his Instagram. “I’ll be there signing.”
Fans will be offered a rare glimpse at what Lee calls, “The Worldwide HQ of 40 Acres & a Mule.” The production company, which has produced all of Lee’s works since 1979, struck a deal with Netflix in 2021. The event lands on the heels of Lee’s forthcoming release, “Highest 2 Lowest,” a reimagining of the 1963 film “High and Low,” which itself is an adaption of “King’s Ransom,” a 1959 novel by Ed McBain. The movie, which follows “a music mogul targeted by a ransom plot,” according to IMDB, stars Denzel Washington, Ilfenesh Hadera, A$AP Rocky, and Ice Spice in her feature film debut. The event will feature a performance by DJ Spinna, who has remixed Stevie Wonder, and worked with Eminem. You can find more information at Lee’s Instagram: @spikesjointofficial.

The Spike Lee is an icon. Loved all his movies. His movies are complex as there are many facets to diagnose and discuss. Definitely food for thought. I look forward to the new movie.
I also appreciate he kept his roots in Brooklyn and his annual tribute to Prince in Brooklyn. I love to see our people thrive and excel. Salute.
He’s the man
