“Postal Madness,” playing at the American Theatre of Actors on 314 W 54th Street, is an amusing production, presented by Shades of Truth Theatre, New Heritage Theatre Group, and Michael Anthony Productions. Anthony is also the playwright, giving his 30 years of working at the post office a voice. He depicts a zany environment populated by all kinds of people — from racists and penny-pinchers to those with big aspirations and others simply content with their lot in life as mail carriers at the post office.
Viewers see Anthony’s attempt at navigating a chaotic post office environment where a little levity can go a long way at a job where workers are being cut back since more people use email and other carrier services. The play shows how boundaries in some settings do not only not mean anything, but the overstepping of staff is accepted and somewhat encouraged.
We meet an odd combination of individuals who believe in many different things, including communicating with the dead. The humor in this play can be very sexually charged at times, so you would have to consider what you’re comfortable with.
The cast is entertaining to watch and includes Andrew R. Cooksey Jr., Bill Vila, Patrice Battey, Sarah Tuchman, Jim Dadosky, Yvette Quintero, Misha Han, and Shivcharran.
The production has direction by Michael Green and Daryl Welch does sound/lighting design. “Postal Madness” will only play through September 7. Go and see what could be happening behind the scenes with your postal workers. For tickets visit americantheatreofactors.org.
