On September 4, the South Street Seaport Museum in Manhattan will host Soka Tira Osoa, a highwire performance that features tightrope artist Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga and French acrobatic troupe Compagnie Basinga. The event is part of Down to Earth, the International Festival of Multi-Disciplinary Performance in Public Spaces.

The South Street Seaport Museum, located on Pier 16, showcases the history of New York City through a unique maritime lens, and features lots of free and low cost-programming, including “Pay What You Wish” admission that includes exhibitions about migrants and the South Street neighborhood.

Soka Tira Osa, which means “pulling the rope,” will provide New York City audiences with a unique interactive experience, involving volunteer participants in the performance that reimagines “the traditional tug-of-war as a powerful act of collaboration,” according to the museum website. Tightrope artist Bongonga will then take to the skies to deliver a highwire performance suspended Pier 16.

The event is free to attend, but anyone interested is encouraged to secure tickets in advance. For more info and to reserve a spot, visit southstreetseaportmuseum.org.
