Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. North Atlantic Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq. joined 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. at the Opening Bell Ceremony at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square on Tuesday.
The special bell ringing marked the upcoming Mother’s Day and the 50th anniversary of the flower company. Spearman, along with other mothers, witnessed Adolfo Villagomez, Chief Executive Officer of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, ring the Opening Bell for the stock exchange platform.
“I want to thank 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, its Founder and Chairman Jim McCann, and Nasdaq for inviting me to be a part of this delightful ceremony. According to the flower company, 15 million stems will be delivered for Mother’s Day, making the observance one of the largest floral moments of the year. I certainly plan to deliver a few blooms myself! I can attest that flowers generate bright smiles on the faces of recipients,” said Spearman.
As the North Atlantic Regional Director, Spearman leads more than 16,000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in 11 states and Washington, D.C. Spearman, an attorney, is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
“In both of my roles, I connect with countless mothers daily. I pay tribute to them, and of course, honor my own mother. I know the sacrifices mothers, godmothers, aunts, and grandmothers all make and the care they give to their children and their families and they are, indeed, worthy of flowers.”
