Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq., a champion for women and girls, and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Girl Scouts of Connecticut and the North Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated,® was excited to join other mothers earlier this month when Adolfo Villagomez, CEO of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, rang the iconic opening bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square.

The bell ringing on May 5 marked the 50th anniversary of the flower company and served as a pre-Mother’s Day tribute to women. Spearman expressed appreciation to 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, its founder and chair Jim McCann, and Nasdaq for the invitation to be a part of the ceremony. “In both of my roles, I connect with countless mothers daily. I pay tribute to them, and of course, honor my own mother,” she said. “I know the sacrifices mothers, godmothers, aunts, and grandmothers all make and the care they give to their children and their families and they are, indeed, worthy of flowers.”

As Alpha Kappa Alpha’s North Atlantic Regional Director, Spearman leads more than 16,000 members of the sorority in 11 states and Washington, D.C.
