More than 1,000 Brooklyn residents gathered at Paerdegat Park on Aug. 22 for the 19th Annual Harvest Fest, a back-to-school celebration hosted by Brooklyn State Sen. Kevin Parker.

Children received backpacks filled with school supplies while parents connected with community organizations offering year-round resources and services.

The event was presented in partnership with A Shared Dream Foundation, Sesame Flyers International and the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Parker said the annual event helps ensure local students begin the school year prepared and supported.

“Every child deserves to walk into that first day of school ready, confident, and supported,” Parker said.
