PEOPLE magazine is reporting that the highly anticipated revival of the 1981 Broadway musical Dreamgirls will not open during the Fall 2026 season.
Last fall, it was announced that the Tony Award-winning musical, which was adapted into a feature film in 2006, was holding open casting calls to find the next members of the “Dreams,” the all-girl singing group at the center of the story. Camille A. Brown was tapped to direct and choreograph the production.
EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson, who starred as Effie White in the 2006 film adaptation, was also set to produce the Broadway revival.
However, in recent months, there has been little information released about the upcoming production, raising questions about its status.
“The new Broadway production of Dreamgirls, directed and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, is absolutely moving forward,” producers told PEOPLE. “As with any major Broadway production, schedules evolve as the various elements come together, and the production will no longer open in Fall 2026. We look forward to announcing the theatre, dates and casting when they are confirmed.”
