You only have a short time to put “Watch the Throne,” playing at Black Spectrum Theatre in Queens, on your radar, because it will close Sunday, Oct. 25. The play, by Felix Omozusi, is set in Africa where King Hamza faces terrorists, the political structure, and family betrayal as he tries to take care of his people. King Hamza has his plate full, and when he’s suddenly struck down, his kingdom and his family feel lost. The people were already upset by terrorists activities, and everyone wonders to whom the throne will be passed on.
The story looks at multiple family dynamics that deal with jealousy, power, betrayal, and ensuring that focus is upon the best interests of the people. It is a play that will capture your attention — and, in some scenes, your heart.
The cast of “Watch the Throne” delivers a poignant story and includes David Roberts (King Hamza), Malissa Myers (Queen Nafisa), Lavera Williams (Queen Zaniab), Tatiana Skyy (Princess Amina), Torreke Evans (Prince Idris), Jade Mason (Bree), MisaLove Smith (Halimah), K. Sidney (Faruq), Dimitri Dewes Jr. (Ibrahim), Mathew Sirju (Peter), Aaron Watkins (Musa), I. Joseph (Sniper), and Rommell Sermons (President).
The production has cohesive direction by Lawrence Floyd. On the technical side, the elements definitely come together through set design by Chris Cumberrbatch, lighting design by Allison Ramnarine, sound by Troy Blackwell, and stunning costume design by Robin Hemmings.
