As part of its ongoing health initiatives, the International Christian Brotherhood (ICB) will host a special day dedicated to spiritual renewal and healthy living Saturday, Sept. 22, in Brooklyn.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a men’s meeting at the Christian Cultural Center, where Senior Pastor A.R. Bernard and guest speaker Dr. Derek Suite, founder of Full Circle Health, will discuss key elements to living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. ICB’s annual Men’s Health Fair will immediately follow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both events will take place at the Christian Cultural Center campus, 12020 Flatlands Ave. in Brooklyn.
The Health Fair will offer free blood-pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, colon and eye testing as well as nutritional counseling. Participants can also gather a wealth of health information from various vendors, and attending veterans will be able to sign up for additional health services.
ICB has also invited job recruiters, plus there will be live jujitsu, martial arts, weight training and fitness demonstrations. For additional information, visit www.cccinfo.org.
It is a well-known fact that men are less likely than women to seek medical help. This can lead to delayed diagnosis, which hinders the treatment of sickness. Current statistics show that heart disease, cancer and diabetes top the list of leading causes of death among men. Of the 292,000 African-American men who die each year, half succumb to heart disease and cancer. Prevention and early detection is the best defense.
Founded by Pastor Bernard, CEO of the Christian Cultural Center, the International Christian Brotherhood seeks to train men in Christ-likeness as the standard for manhood. With its motto “We Train Men,” ICB is dedicated to establishing a global network of Christian men, who, regardless of race, denomination or nationality, commit their knowledge, influence and affluence to bringing about positive change in their society.
