Tongues are wagging that Jamie Foxx was thrown a surprise dinner to celebrate his 48th birthday Dec. 12 in New York City at Le Bilboquet restaurant. Guests included his rumored girlfriend Katie Holmes, Alicia Keys and his “Dreamgirls” castmate Jennifer Hudson, who reportedly serenaded the Oscar winner with her showstopping hit “And I’m Telling You.”
“Orange Is the New Black” cast members Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba and Laverne Cox stepped out on the purple carpet at the opening night of Broadway’s “The Color Purple” Dec. 10 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City. Other members of the show in attendance included Yael Stone, Samira Wiley, Kate Mulgrew, Lea DeLauria and Selenis Layria. They were all in the audience to support their co-star Danielle Brooks, who stars as Sofia in the musical, as well as Jennifer Hudson, who plays Shug Avery. Other celebs present included Gayle King, Phylicia Rashad, Gabourey Sidibe and “The Wiz Live” star Shanice Williams.
Just in time for the holidays, famed couture and ready-to-wear designer b Michael showcased his new social dress collection for fans and friends at Macy’s Herald Square Tuesday, Dec. 3. The mood at the holiday soiree was festive and elegant as the stylist’s guests, including actress Tamara Tunie, enjoyed a three-piece band, sipped cocktails and snacked on scrumptious small bites while live models brought the designer’s latest looks to life.
Patti LaBelle was presented with a commemorative plaque to celebrate the restocking of her famous sweet potato pies at Walmart in Bentonville, Ark. Meanwhile, the legendary Grammy winner filmed a cooking holiday special with super fan James “Chanel” Wright.
Despite being indicted for tax evasion, former NFL player Plaxico Burress was seen dining at American Whiskey in the Big Apple and watching the Giants-Jets game while noshing on crab cakes and drinking Sauvignon blanc. Burress played for both New York teams.
