Essex County College in Newark is making high school students aware of two scholarships the community college offers through an initiative from the Newark Housing Authority.

The deadline for the NHA Scholarship Foundation grant is March 11, and the Newark College Promise Scholarship award deadline is May 16. Applicants may apply for both scholarships but must fill out each application separately.

Applicants must be a Newark high school senior and a current resident in NHA public housing or in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The student must also have been accepted into ECC or one of a number of approved New Jersey four-year public colleges.

ECC-bound students applying for the scholarships are required to commit to transferring to one of the four-year colleges immediately after earning an associate degree from ECC. The ECC degree must be received within 36 months of enrollment.

Students who receive the scholarship are eligible to transfer to ECC-partnered schools, including Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Montclair State University.

The value of the renewable awards is determined on a case-by-case basis. Complete information on both scholarships is available at www.newarkha.org/scholarship.php.
