Date night in New York City can take any direction, but there is a new way to combine dinner, drinks and a movie in the city that will impress across the board.

Here’s the thing. I can’t stop thinking about the CMX Steak. The USDA prime New York strip steak comes three ways: original, Wagyu Flat Iron and barbecue spice rubbed cowboy ribeye. At the staff’s recommendation, I choose cowboy style. The dinner arrives with cauliflower puree, smoked marrow bone, duck fat-roasted radish and turnip, and black garlic aioli. This feast arrived at my seat at the movies—which reclined perfectly—with perfect acoustic for sound.

This experience is CMX CinéBistro—just three months old, located at 62nd Street and First Avenue—a six-level theater that contains two auditoriums and immersive bars in the common areas. It’s an intimate theater ranging in size from 46 to 64 seats. It’s like walking into the future of cinema. CMX CinéBistro’s six auditoriums feature the latest in projection technology, including a Dolby 7.1 sound system, and lush oversized reclining love seats with leather accents and footrests, complete with a swivel table. CMX’s unique luxury concept uses cutting-edge technology to offer moviegoers the ultimate upscale, relaxing cinema experience with in-seat, full-service dining and an exceptional assortment of wines and handcrafted cocktails made with fresh ingredients by top mixologists.

This new venue hosted a star-studded event that paid homage to three celebrated films from the most coveted eras of the ’30s/’40s, ’70s and modern day, and was hosted by New York film icons that included film director, producer and writer Spike Lee; renowned actress and model Brooke Shields; and actress and granddaughter of iconic silent film legend Charlie Chaplin, Kiera Chaplin. The positive word-of-mouth about the short rib mac and cheese, Moroccan lamb lollipops and the previews (appetizers) Wagyu beef sliders (Order an extra. Your mouth will thank you.) made it impossible not to go and check out the VIP experience firsthand.

Let’s talk cocktails. My date had a hard time choosing from the 20 specialty cocktails, wines and beers. In the end, he chooses the Aristocrat—Hennessy, Manhattan Ragtime Rye, honey syrup and molasses bitters.

Holidays are here and the CMX CineBistro NY will be gifting guests an extra cup of holiday cheer, in the form of a complimentary hot chocolate Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 (while supplies last) at their screenings of the season’s most highly anticipated blockbusters, including “Mary Poppins Returns” (premiered Dec. 21), “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (premiered Dec. 14), “Aquaman” (premiered Dec. 21 ), “Second Act” (premiered Dec. 21) and “Vice” (premieres Dec. 28).
