On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, RestorationROCKS! had Fulton Street in Bedford Stuyvesant transformed into both an open air concert and vendors’ market and food bazaar. Ever year this free interactive gift to the public brings in thousands of people to the day-long event, in what organizing partners of Bed-Stuy Alive! call the “mecca of Black arts and culture in Brooklyn with street vendors, live music and delicious food.”

They always bing great musical artists, usually with a Brooklyn connection. In the past they have had musical guests such as Talib Kweli, Les Nubians and Chrisette Michelle. This year the RestorationROCKS! annual week-long Bed-Stuy Alive! celebration had local community talent, plus favorites Big Daddy Kane, Nona Hendryx, Maritri Garret and the Soulfolk Experience.

Kane and Hendryx gave big, big performances. The regular Saturday afternoon crowd was happy to sing and dance in the street enjoying “the legacy of Bed-Stuy,” and even as night loomed they continued with a Soul Summit House Party. Ain’t no party like a Brooklyn party!
