Comedian and actor Cedric Kyles, better known to audiences as Cedric the Entertainer, will make a tri-state area stop at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (Bergen PAC) in Englewood, N.J., on Friday, Jan. 30 as part of a limited run of dates that includes performances in Houston, Texas; Tampa, Fla.; and Detroit, Mich., this year. The comic, who currently stars on CBS’s “The Neighborhood,” will bring laughs to the NJ stage before a book release and Broadway appearance this spring.
Cedric the Entertainer first came to prominence in the early 1990s after performing standup on “Showtime at the Apollo.” Since then, he has starred in a pantheon of hilarious work in both film and television that includes “The Steve Harvey Show,” “Barbershop,” “Ice Age,” and “The Original Kings of Comedy,” a Spike Lee Joint event that features a standout routine by Cedric alongside contemporary comic giants Harvey, D.L. Hughley, and the late Bernie Mac.
As of late, Cedric has expanded his work into the food sector, lending his name and image to Setta, an award-winning wine by Smith Devereux that serves as a tribute to the comic’s late mother, according to their website. Cedric also recently started AC Barbeque with fellow comic Anthony Anderson, and the pair have kicked off a sauce collaboration with fast food chain Arby’s in advance of a cookbook release this May. He will return to New York City in March, kicking off a limited Broadway run alongside Taraji P Henson in “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” a play by August Wilson.
